When I was growing up, one of the career paths that always intrigued me was becoming a doctor—specifically, a surgeon. I admired the skill and steady hands required for such a role. The $300 Dilemma
One day, I cracked the screen of my iPhone. At the time, repair costs were steep, hovering around $200–$300. Paying that much seemed absurd when I could use half the money to fix it myself and save the rest.
Determined to solve the problem on my own, I turned to YouTube for guidance. Watching tutorials on screen replacements made it seem doable. The intricate process of carefully removing and reassembling tiny components reminded me of a surgeon’s delicate work—except there was no risk of life or death involved!
At the same time, using tools like a heat gun and navigating the screws, seals, and adhesives felt like a fun crafting project. It was the perfect blend of precision and creativity.

Gathering the Tools
To begin, I needed just a few essentials:
- A replacement screen (which I ordered on Amazon).
- Sealant to restore water resistance, as skipping this step could lead to water damage.
- A heat gun (which I already had).
Luckily, I found a kit that included the replacement screen and all the necessary tools: screws, suction cups, and the tiny plastic guitar-pick-like prying tool. This made the process much more manageable.

The Process
Replacing the iPhone screen turned out to be relatively simple, but it wasn’t without its challenges. The most nerve-racking part was using the heat gun to soften the adhesive. Too much heat could damage the internal components, so I had to be extremely cautious.
Unplugging the wires was another delicate task. Replacing the screen involves disconnecting not just the display but also components like the camera, microphone, and home button (back when iPhones still had them). A wrong move—pulling too hard or plugging something in incorrectly—could cause irreversible damage.
I worked slowly and steadily, treating each step with the precision of a surgeon. There was no room for error, and I made sure every move was intentional and well-executed.

The Trickiest Parts
One of the most intense moments was using the prying tool to separate the screen from the phone’s body. The goal was to slide the tool just enough to lift the adhesive but not so deep that it could damage any wires.
